Specimen Requirements:
Please Note: Also known as PML/Retinoic Acid Receptor Alpha (RARA) translocation. RNA is extremely labile and subject to degradation. All specimens should be shipped to Genzyme on day of collection. Delay in shipping may compromise cell viability and results. Paraffin-embedded tissue is not acceptable for this test.
- Peripheral Blood:
- 1-2 ml in EDTA (lavender-top) tube.
- Refrigerate specimen. Use cold pack for transport. Be sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen during transport.
- Bone Marrow Aspirate:
- 1-2 ml aseptically aspirated in EDTA (lavender-top) tube.
- Provide bone marrow smear and CBC results with specimen.
- Do not expose specimen to formalin or fixative fumes.
- Refrigerate specimen. Use cold pack for transport. Be sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen during transport.
Turnaround Time:
1 day for new diagnostic specimens; 4-5 days for follow-up specimens
